People often ask the question; "What will heaven be like?" Although the Bible discusses heaven, it is not possible to understand the full nature of heaven from a human perspective. Since heaven is where God lives, it contains dimensions unknown to this physical universe that God created. We cannot imagine, nor can we experience in our current bodies, what those other dimensions might be like, unless God chooses to show us. Even so, we are given enough information in the Bible to understand many of the things that will be different in heaven compared to the life we live here on this earth.

There is much evidence from both the Bible and from science that demonstrates God must exist and operate in dimensions of space and time other than those to which we are confined. God could have created the universe if He were a part of it, but seeing as how He created the heaven's and the earth while not yet formed, it was evident that He was not a part of either. Therefore, we must understand that He was separate from both, before He decided to create them as the Bible says in Genesis 1:1; "On the first day, God created the heaven's and the earth." God is in control and sustains all that we see around us and even that which we cannot see.

God's Holy Spirit is everywhere and can simultaneously hear and answer all the prayers that all people pray, at all times. Not only that, He can see all actions of all individuals - even those whose actions are done in secret. Nothing is hidden from God's sight. Hebrews 4:12-13; "For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. Nothing in all creation is hidden from God's sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account."

The God of the Bible is described as omnipotent. If God were confined to three dimensions of space and one dimension of time, then He could be in only one place at one time. The God of the Bible is described as knowing all that we do. We can hide nothing from God. A three-dimensional God would not have the ability to see through walls (can you?) and could not know what happens outside of His sight.

Scripture References:
  • Philippians 3:20-21—But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body.
  • Acts 1:11—“Men of Galilee,” they said, “why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven.”
  • John 14:1-3—“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.
  • Acts 4:12—Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.”
  • Revelation 21:1-4—Then I saw “a new heaven and a new earth,”for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”
  • Matthew 7:13-15—“Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it. “Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves.
  • Revelation 21:21-25The twelve gates were twelve pearls, each gate made of a single pearl. The great street of the city was of gold, as pure as transparent glass. I did not see a temple in the city, because the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple. The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and the Lamb is its lamp. The nations will walk by its light, and the kings of the earth will bring their splendor into it.  On no day will its gates ever be shut, for there will be no night there.
